There is no second thought about it that Bali is beautiful. Lucky me that I got a chance to explore it with hubby in the early days when marriage is all about the lovely walk & talks with honey under the moon. 🙂 😉
Bali Beach_Under the Moon
In Bali, for the first two days, we were involved in endless talking, exploring food, taking a dip in the culture and the calm and subtle waters of Sanur. Under the moonlight, hubby dear mentioned about a friend in business school, who hailed from Indonesia. The call happened and so did the road trip…
I must say male bondings are great. Mr Buddy, Wahyu Sadewo came to greet us in our hotel same evening. Over the dinner, the plan for the next day was sealed. He promised to show us the best of Bali the following day. 8 am on a Sunday, the friend and in his car stood right outside our hotel. Wow! I always appreciate punctual people. I was excited to start the great ride. Well let me tell you that as far as transportation is concerned Bali has few buses and no trains thus it is explored best through road-rides either through rented bikes, cars or taxis. We were lucky we had a friend to take us on a road trip.
Ride through Bali
Wayhu handed me a road map considering if I wanted to explore my routes and yeah it turned out very handy. The guys settled themselves in the front seats to chat about everything about Bali while I had the back portion of the car to myself. First he drove through the countryside for few kilometers and then we entered the art, wood and jewelery market of Bali called Ubud. I enjoyed the slow-drive through the market. Amazing art works attracted me and I just couldn’t resist and thus insisted for the first halt. How could I miss the paintings?

Once we were through Ubud, the ride to the mountains began. The fantastic sceneries on both side of the road kept me energized. Also Wahyu filled us with every bit of Bali and it was fun to hear from a local. There wasn’t much traffic nor much action on the roads, it was a smooth ride to the top. We were headed to the mother of all temples, Besakih Temple. I got out of the car to take a few pics of the beautiful rice terraces. They were absolutely amazing! And the palm trees bordering them created a surreal view.

We drove through the back road to Besakih south from the highland area, Kintamani. The hour-long drive is mesmerizing as you pass through forests, villages and fields. The lower elevations had lush greenery. Whatever met the eye absolutely thrilled the heart! 🙂
Lush Green Bali
Bali is incredibly different and the ride was helping us to explore the beautiful layers of its culture. We saw the local people walking elegantly along the side of the roads, the dancing girls and a glimpse of a celebration too as we drove towards the mountains.
Celebrations in Bali Balinese Beauties
Besakih, the mother of temples is situated on the slopes of Mt. Agung. The volcano on the Mt. Agung erupted in 1963 but the flow of lava did not harm the temple though it killed thousands of people. The temple is close to the heart of the people here. It is indeed beautiful and the architecture of the complex temple is impressive.

From the Besakih temple, we made our way to Lake Batur. I was smitten by the beauty of the place. Mount Batur is set in a tremendous volcanic caldera.

Having driven to approximately eighty kilometers and with three halts, it was time for late lunch. The location was most amazing one till date, having the sight of the volcano to your front while you eat. And the best it began to drizzle turning the moment auspicious and romantic both.
Lunch with the Volcano in the view
After enjoying the lunch, we sat around chatting. Wayhu assured that there was more to go when I was already bragging and praising about the day. As the rains stopped, we headed to the nearby places to click some great pictures. He drove us to the nook and cranny of the surroundings which no travel-guide would have ever done.

After ride through some more temples, the better than the best was yet to come. We saw this happen and we ended the day with a view of a breath-taking natural phenomenon. What a beautiful sunset that our eyes caught at Tanah Lot! Isn’t it picturesque?
This ride turned out to be the quintessence of Bali. We couldn’t thank Wayhu much for this, the best I have done now is have written this piece about the perfect road trip. None could show us the place like he did. We never felt like a tourist in a foreign land. He is a passionate photographer and I wanna show his work through this post. I call it a perfect ride because he drove the car to and fro and made the journey absolutely comfortable. It turned out to be an enriching experience and a day not to forget ever. It was a Wow trip. It had no speed, it had no adrenaline rush but it gave me some spectacular views and wonderful memories to cherish forever, its worth to be called an awesome trip. I had the best people with me. 🙂 🙂 🙂
