In October, I received a premium device bearing the branding of Microsoft (erstwhile Nokia). I was sent a Lumia 640 XL to use for smartphone photography during my travels and share my feedback. I was open to the idea because having worked with Nokia in the initial stage of my career, I have a deep connect with its phones. Of course, smartphone photography is relevant to me because it holds many other important purposes in my life as well. As a blogger, I get invited to several events that I attend and everyday its quite a chore to carry a heavy camera. I love a handy smartphone if it does it job well.
Maybe not the landscapes but I prefer clicking food pictures with my smartphone. For the social media enthusiast in me, it becomes very easy to share the live updates directly on ‘Twitter and Instagram’. Thus, with a blogger cap on my head all the time, a phone that clicks good pictures is a mandate for me. And no matter, how good it maybe, I have a knack for large screens so I know my choices. Lumia 640 XL gets my recommendation because being a Windows Phone OS, this one easily braves two days of moderate use. I prefer keeping my phone free of applications and thus I wouldn’t complain on that aspect where LUMIA does lack in comparison to android phones.
So my last Mumbai trip (22 October- 2 November) was all about experimenting with the new tool, Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. With a 13 megapixels back camera and a Zeiss lens, I must say the the quality of images were good. The pictures captured in daylight was great with details and accurate color reproduction. Even Low-light shots were quite good in comparison to my phone that also has a 13 megapixel camera. So to make the best use of it, in the eleven days in Mumbai, I did not eat a morsel without clicking its pictures from the Lumia phone. The pictures were of natural colours, and they saved the details in sufficient.Of course, I did this for you so that next time when you are in Mumbai, you know what to eat and where to head. In fact you must do Mumbai soon because Lonely Planet has listed it as one of the ten cities to be visited in 2016. (latest book)
All the pictures used in this post have been clicked by Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. A few have been edited here and there on Picasa 3 but majorly they are all in no-filter forms. My food trail begins now. Smartphone photography is fun because tempting food pictures always bring back happy and relishing memories.
1. CHINA GATE, Linking Road, Bandra West
It was a positive omen to start the trip with this inspiring quote at CHINA GATE, Linking Road. My friends drove me down here directly from the airport when I landed in Mumbai. I am fond of Chinese food and I must say everything we ordered here left a lip-smacking taste. The Crispy Spinach-Paneer, Rice Noodles and Pepper Chicken were yum. Great service, great food.
2. CAFE CHURCHILL
Its no more a hidden fact that I love to travel near and far but more than that I love to eat too. So while I was exploring Mumbai and its UNESCO heritage sites, I was also looking for legendary restaurants. In Colaba, there are amazing places to lunch and dine but this place located near East West Court Building, Opposite Cusrow Baug, Shahid Bhagat Singh Road, Colaba, Mumbai is quite a treat to the taste-buds. The Grilled Fish Steak with the white sauce was mind-blowing. Menu may disappoint the vegetarian in you but just stay and tell them to make the exotic and exclusive in vegetarian dishes and they will do.
3. THE SQUARE, NOVOTEL IMAGICA
I loved the buffet spread here at the Sqaure of Novotel Imagica. You could eat for hours. This signature restaurant of Novotel runs for 24 hours and have options for both Ala Carte and Buffet. From freshly baked bread options to the multi-specialties main course, food is very well laid out from Asian, north Indian and Italian cuisine. I must appreciate the ambiance, seating and the courteous service. And don’t miss to check the food clicks.
4. THEOBROMA
“THEOBRAMA” -Pasteries, Chocolates, Pastries!
My friend had told me that this is one of her favorite places for desserts and pastries in the city. No doubt, It is an heaven for cakes and fudges but I am glad this English breakfast happened for me. I loved the menu card as well. It is quite different from others. The ‘Eggs to Order‘ had great options and since I am an egg-lover I almost fell for them. I dint know which one to go for but finally I went for the ‘Full English’ breakfast and the fun was that I had it at dinner time. You must notice the Kejriwal dish in the second picture?
5. MAD OVER DONUTS
I got a chance to be at the opening of the the cafe style format of MAD OVER DONUTS at Church gate. The burgers made of donuts were very-very interesting. Gladly, its not a take away place but a nice and cosy place to sit and chat with friends. And all those who don’t have a sweet tooth, can enough salty variety of doughnuts. The waffles, mini donuts with dips were fun.
