Trekking is an experience of a lifetime. You would know this if you have trekked already, if not then it is high-time you try scaling up a peak. The view you get when you scale a peak cannot be expressed in words. You get a bird’s view of the plains lying below which is totally mesmerizing. You get to see the real beauty of nature and the diverse fauna and flora.
Take an opportunity to appreciate the real beauty of our country by going on a trekking trip. I have a female friend who has done Chadar trek and she has some amazing things to talk about it. There is another friend who has recently done Valley of flowers and now its hard to impress her with the lower altitudes. I have not done any of them but I so wish to do it someday. Sursingdhar in Uttrakhand has already made me fall in love with the mountains. Here’s a list of the top 5 adventurous trekking spots in India.
- Chadar Trek
Imagine trekking over sheets of ice. The thrill that this trek can give you is unimaginable. In some places the ice layers are very thin and can crumble under your feet. You will be walking over the Zanskar river that is frozen due to chilling temperatures during winter. You get to see some amazing sights during the trek which includes snow-capped mountains at very close range and some frozen waterfalls.
The best time to trek is in the months of January to March. You have to reach the place through local buses.
- Kuari Pass Trek
In the state of Uttarakhand is this beautiful trekking spot which is also called “The Lord Curzon Trail”. You get to see the amazing sight of 7000-meters tall mountains that extend all the way to Tibet. At an altitude of 4000 to 4500 meters, you can reach this place with a little difficulty. The best time to trek is in the months of May to October.
You will have to take a road journey from Haridwar to Joshimath. Use redbus coupons when you visit Haridwar to save money in the form of discounts. From Joshimath, climb up the hill for an adventure of a lifetime!
- Valley of Flowers Trek
Another beautiful trekking destination in Uttarakhand is the Valley of Flowers. This place which was accidentally discovered by British traveler, Frank Smith is situated at an altitude of 3700 meters. The thing that makes this place a wonderful trekking destination is that it is easy to climb up to the place.
The best time to visit the place is between July and October. This is when most flowers bloom and the valley has a wonderful sight to behold!
- Roopkund Trek
A beautiful destination for a beginner trekker is the Roopkund Mountains. This place is covered with ice for most part of the year. It is extremely chilly with blizzards happening often during winter. This the reason why it is unsafe during winters. The best time to visit the place is between the months of May and September when the sun shines bright.
A more adventurous thrill to this place is the Roopkund Lake which has mysterious human skeletons in its waters.
- Pindari Glacier Trek
One of the easiest yet most beautiful treks is the Pindari Glacier Trek. The trek starts from the peaceful village of Khati. You get to see some beautiful peaks on way to the glacier which is approximately 3 km long. The best time to reach the place is in the months of May to October.
